Accessibility
We are dedicated to fostering an accessible environment that caters to the information needs of every member of our community.
The library welcomes suggestions from patrons as to how we can improve access to those requiring accommodations. Please call the library at 201-262-2613  or email us at oradcirc@bccls.org with your suggestions.
Parking: There are two handicap spots on Church Street in front of the library entrance.
Entrances: The library’s main entrance on Church Street has wheelchair-accessible automatic doors.
Elevator: The library has an elevator available for public use, allowing patrons to easily access programs and collections on the lower level and our second-floor Junior Room.
Restrooms: There are two single-occupancy public restrooms on each floor. All are wheelchair accessible.
Service Animals: In compliance with the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJ-LAD) and the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), service animals are welcome in all areas of the Library where members of the public are normally allowed to go.
Telesensory Machine: The library has a telesensory machine with a 19-inch monitor that magnifies printed text for ease of reading. We invite anyone who may need such assistance to visit the Library and use the machine, which sits at the end of the row of computers on the lower level of the Library.
Our telesensory machine was generously donated by former Library Board Secretary Claire Beslow and her late husband Edward.
We are continually working to update both our online and physical library materials in order to make it easier for individuals with visual impairments to access information.
Talking Book and Braille Center (TBBC): The library is a partner of the New Jersey State Library’s TBBC . TBBC serves New Jersey residents of all ages who have difficulty reading standard print or holding a book due to a visual impairment, physical limitation, or reading disability. TBBC provides books in Braille and audio formats. Once registered, the patrons can have braille books, an audiobook player, and audiobooks shipped to their homes free of charge.
Registering for TBBC also provides access to the Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) service, which allows patrons to download book and magazines with the BARD mobile app, a Windows computer, or a digital audiobook player provided by TBBC.
For assistance applying for TBBC service, a demonstration of the TBBC audiobook player and/or BARD, or help downloading materials from BARD, contact our reference librarian, Orla Cassidy, at 201-262-2613 or orla.cassidy@oradell.bccls.org to make an appointment.
Large Print Book Collection: Â For those who have difficulty reading standard sized print books, the library maintains and updates a collection of large print books, both fiction and non-fiction. In addition, patrons may request copies of books (standard and large print) from other libraries via the catalog at no cost.
Electronic Resources: The library offers downloadable books, audiobooks, magazines, music, movies, and television series through Libby, hoopla and Kanopy. Anyone with an Oradell Library card can make use of these services free of charge, allowing patrons access to a variety of information and entertainment without having to leave home. Library staff members are trained on how to set up new accounts and download material and are available during library hours to assist patrons who are new to these resources or who need a refresher on how to use them. View our digital borrowing options.
Wireless Printing: The library offers wireless printing services, allowing people who prefer to work from home or another outside location the ability to send material to the library for printing. The material can then be picked up at any time during the library’s open hours. Learn more about wireless printing.

The library is committed to ensuring the accessibility of all its documents and promotional materials. This effort encompasses various types of content, including flyers, brochures, handouts, social media posts, and newsletters. Our goal is to meet or exceed the minimum accessibility requirements outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidance.
Accessibility considerations go beyond just complying with legal standards; they reflect our commitment to providing equitable access to information for all members of our community, including those with disabilities.
Key aspects of our approach include:
- Readability: Prioritize readability by carefully selecting fonts, font sizes, colors, and hues. This includes making sure that content is clear and legible for everyone, regardless of their visual abilities.
- Universal Design: Embrace the principles of universal design to create materials that are usable by the widest possible audience. This means our materials are designed to be inclusive by default.
- Text Alternatives/Readable Text: Ensure that screen readers and other assistive technologies can use our documents, online promotional materials, and social media.
By taking these steps, we aim to make our information and resources accessible to everyone, promoting a more inclusive and diverse library experience. If you have specific accessibility-related concerns or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Your input is invaluable in our ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility.
The Oradell Public Library is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all people, including individuals with disabilities. We strive to provide an inclusive online experience that enables everyone to access library services, programs, and information.
