Notary Services

The Oradell Public Library proudly offers Notary Public services free to our residents.

Please call us at 201-262-2613 to make an appointment. A notary is typically available from 10:00am to 5:00pm Mondays through Friday, but we cannot guarantee the availability without a scheduled appointment.

Requirements for Notary Service

  • The signer of the document must appear before the Notary.
  • The Notary must positively identify the signer; and
  • The signer must both acknowledge the signature as their own, and that the signature is made willingly.

The following Guidelines Will Be Followed for Notary Service

  • The person who signs the document must be sure that the document is completely filled out, leaving no blanks other than where they will sign the document, before appearing before the Library Notaries. Library Notaries cannot notarize any document with blank spaces.
  • Government issued photo identification is required of any patron seeking Notary service.

The Notary WILL NOT:

  • Provide services for deeds, real-estate closings, wills, living wills, living trusts, codicils, or depositions.
  • Notarize photocopies of original documents.
  • Provide witnesses. Witnesses cannot be solicited from other patrons or staff at the Library.

Additional Notes:

  • In order to serve as a witness, the witness must know the person whose document is being notarized and must be in possession of valid photo identification.
  • Documents in any language other than English will not be notarized.
  • New Jersey law requires that a Notary and the patron seeking notarization be able to communicate directly with each other. Library Notaries are not permitted to make use of a translator to communicate with a Notary service customer.

In accordance with New Jersey Notarial Law, notaries reserve the right to decline service if the document(s), identification, or circumstances of the request raise any issue of authenticity, ambiguity, or doubt from the Library.
