All Oradell residents age five and up are entitled to a free library card! Your library card provides access to eBooks, digital audiobooks, magazines, movies, and TV shows, free admission to museums with our passes, and lets you borrow items from any BCCLS library.
How to Sign Up for a Library Card
- Adults must bring photo ID and proof of residency. A driver’s license with your current address works as both. If your ID doesn’t have your Oradell address, a utility bill, rent/mortgage statement, deed, insurance card, or certified mail works too.
- Children under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign up for a library card. Patrons are responsible for all items checked out with their card. If you are the parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18, you are also responsible for materials borrowed on your child’s card.
- You can pre-register online, but you’ll still need to visit the library with proof of residency to get your card and full account benefits. Please let us know that you registered online when you come in so we don’t duplicate your account information. Pre-registering is not required.
Good to know
- You must present your card, a digital representation of your card, or your ID to borrow library materials. If you download the BCCLS app, you can tap “My Barcode” to display your digital card – or any card linked to the device. The BCCLS app also allows you to request items and see due dates for items you have checked out.
- Your card is honored in over 78 libraries in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties that are part of the Bergen County Library System (BCCLS).
- Your card is valid for three years. We will alert you when your account is nearing expiration. To renew your card, bring proof of address to the Oradell Public Library or any library in BCCLS. Renewing your card is free.
- In order to keep our records up-to-date please let us know if you change your name, address, phone number or email. Contact us immediately if your card is lost or stolen. Lost cards may be replaced for $3.00.
How BCCLS Works
BCCLS (pronounced “buckles”) is a library system in north New Jersey. Oradell Public Library is a member of BCCLS. Click here for a list of BCCLS libraries.
- You can borrow items from any BCCLS library – just show your library card.
- You can return borrowed items to any BCCLS library, even if you didn’t borrow them there or they belong to a different library.
- You can request items that aren’t available at the Oradell Public Library but are owned by another library in BCCLS. A library that owns it will send it to Oradell and we’ll alert you when it’s ready to pick up.
- Most libraries have a small collection of items with different rules. Only Oradell residents can borrow our museum passes, and they have to be picked up at and returned to the Oradell Public Library. Anyone can borrow our jigsaw puzzles or bakeware, but they have to be picked up at and returned to the Oradell Public Library. In general, you will not be able to borrow museum passes from other towns with your Oradell Library card.
